As digital strategists we tell all our client that a successful online strategy is paramount to their marketing efforts in this digital world.
One of those strategies is business blogging.
A business blog is one of the most powerful advertising tools a business can have because it provides a platform for a purpose driven community. Purposeful, collaborative experiences such as blogging allows organisations and businesses to nurture customer experiences and interests and map a long term visions of customer loyalty. Put simply, it gives them a powerful platform to connect, communicate, relate, inform, grow, share, explore, help and transform.
The key to business blogging is consistency and a long term investment in your customer. Keep the content coming in a relevant and purposeful way while also providing an interesting variety of well researched topics that are to the point and organised.
Adding links within your page content to related topics on other pages of your site will help with organisation and make your website more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
It’s about quality! People usually search very specifically and become frustrated if forced to sift through a lot of information to find what they are looking for.
Your content needs to be educational and should speak to them and answer their questions directly and concisely. Also, don’t try to fool them with a sales pitch or by disguising your blog as a press release or advertisement. It’s about interesting, purposeful and concise content delivered regularly that will build trust and help them become more ready to buy.
Your business blog needs to be optimised. Every blog you create should have a purpose and therefore have a targeted keyword phrase associated with it.
A keyword phrase is two or more words that people type into the search engines when they are looking for something. For instance: Business Blogging might be the phrase someone types into Google when they are looking for information on how to start a business blog.
Chances are you are naturally including keywords without realising it simply by providing valuable content on a topic. Make sure though that you have done some research – The keyword phrase should be targeted and relevant and placed where they will have the most impact for both your targeted audience and search engine crawlers indexing your content.
Without over doing it (because that would be a turn off and also bad for SEO – Google doesn’t like Keyword Stuffing!) You should include them in at least some, if not all, of the following places:
Blog Title
Headings and subheadings
Intro
Conclusion
Anchor text (where you hyperlink to other related pages on your site)
Title tags and meta descriptions
